2025 Garda Trainee Recruitment Campaign
Approximately 6,380 people applied to be a Garda under the recent competitive recruitment campaign which closed for applications on 8th Feb 2024. The 2024 competition was the first following the Government’s decision to increase the entry age limit to apply to become a Garda trainee from 35 years to 50. Almost 37% of applicants for the 2024 competition were from people aged between 35 and 49. The competitive selection process involves a number of stages including online aptitude tests (Stage 1), competency based interview (Stage 2), and a fitness test (Stage 3). The force has stated that it intends to run recruitment campaigns on an annual basis to ensure a steady stream of trainees entering the Garda college.
