Training and Qualifications

Garda Trainees receive €354 per week before tax during the initial 36 weeks of training at the Garda College in Templemore, with accommodation and meals provided while resident at the College.

The Foundation Training Programme incorporates a Level 7 Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Policing, accredited by the University of Limerick.

Salary and Allowances

Following attestation, Probationer Gardaí move onto the Garda incremental salary scale:

• €39,194 starting annual base salary.
• €60,333 annual base salary after eight years, through incremental progression.
• Additional allowances for working the core shift roster.
• Overtime opportunities, paid at time and a half, or double time on Sundays and public holidays.
