Approximately 6,380 people applied to be a Garda under the recent competitive recruitment campaign which closed for applications on 8th Feb 2024. The 2024 competition was the first following the Government’s decision to increase the entry age limit to apply to become a Garda trainee from 35 years to 50. Almost 37% of applicants for the 2024 competition were from people aged between 35 and 49.
