Garda to Sergeant Promotion Preparation
Garda Sergeants are front-line supervisors at the rank above Garda, with responsibility for the operational management and leadership of members at station and district level.
Promotion to the rank of Sergeant is conducted through a structured selection process, with assessment stages run under the remit of the Public Appointments Service, and successful candidates’ names subsequently forwarded to An Garda Síochána for consideration for promotion.
Eligibility criteria are set out in the regulations governing each competition. In practice, applicants are required to have successfully completed the relevant internal professional promotion examination, which is administered within An Garda Síochána, in order to be eligible to apply.
Garda Sergeant Test Preparation
Drawing on decades of experience and extensive candidate feedback, we have developed a comprehensive Garda to Sergeant preparation course designed to reflect the demands of modern promotion competitions.
Our course provides structured preparation for the psychometric tests and competency-based interviews used in Garda Sergeant promotion campaigns. It has been fully updated to reflect current assessment approaches and expectations, enabling candidates to prepare in a focused, relevant, and effective manner.
Career Services has been providing preparation courses for Garda recruitment and promotion processes since the introduction of aptitude testing in 1987. We are widely recognised as Ireland’s leading preparation course provider for Garda tests and interviews, with a long-standing history of supporting members through both recruitment and promotion competitions.
Prepare for the Assessment Process
Our preparation course is designed for members who are considering applying for, or who have applied to, a Garda Sergeant promotion competition and who wish to prepare thoroughly for the assessment stages involved, including psychometric testing and the competency-based interview.
