The Clerical Officer Recruitment Process

When a Civil Service Clerical Officer recruitment campaign is launched applications are made online at www.publicjobs.ie. Candidates are usually required to take assessments which are designed to identify their potential to fulfil a clerical role. More detailed information in relation to selection methods are made available in an Information Booklet which is released at the time of a new campaign by the Public Appointments Service.

Stages of Recruitment

Upon successful application, candidates are entered into the selection process and need to complete a number of stages as they progress through the process.

Stage 1 can incorporate unsupervised online tests which may include an assessment questionnaire and or verbal, numerical reasoning tests.

Stage 2 can require candidates successful at stage 1 to attend a test venue where they complete the tests as stage 1 but in a supervised capacity.

Stage 3 usually includes a competency based interview.

IMPORTANT: The process above is a general overview of the selection process. Each campaign varies, the steps involved in each campaign are published in an Information Booklet provided by the PAS at the beginning of each campaign. Each candidate should refer to this for the steps involved in each respective recruitment competition.
